Five to ten times the price for a bathroom your guests will not think about. Here is where that trade genuinely pays and where it does not.
A standard portable toilet costs about $150 for a weekend. A four-stall restroom trailer costs about $1,400. Both solve the same literal problem, and the gap between them is the single biggest budget decision in event sanitation.
The honest answer is that most events do not need a trailer and some events absolutely do. What separates them is guest expectation, event length, and whether the site can physically take one.

Choose a trailer when
- Guests are in formalwear and the event runs into the evening
- The event is in Central Texas summer and there is no indoor alternative — the air conditioning alone often justifies it
- You have more than about a hundred guests and the venue has fewer than four fixtures
- The restrooms will appear in photographs
- The event is client-facing, press-facing or brand-facing
- You need a long-term facility while a building's plumbing is out
Standard units are the right call when
- It is a jobsite, a ranch, or any working environment
- Guests are casual and the event is a few hours in daylight
- The site cannot take a trailer and a generator is not practical
- Budget is better spent on almost anything else at the event
- You need a lot of capacity distributed across a large site
The middle option is underrated. A deluxe flushing unit gives you a real flush, an interior sink and a mirror for roughly double a standard unit rather than ten times. For a hundred-guest afternoon wedding on a property a trailer cannot reach, two flushing units and a handwashing station is often the correct answer nobody offered.
The three things that cancel a trailer delivery
Power. A trailer wants a standard dedicated circuit within reach. Many Central Texas venues have one and many Hill Country properties do not. The fix is a quiet inverter generator, quoted alongside the trailer rather than discovered on the day.
Level ground. Trailer fixtures drain by gravity. A pad that looks flat by eye can be several inches out over the length of a trailer, and the result is fixtures that do not drain properly. Ask the supplier to confirm the specific spot in advance.
The tow path. Narrow ranch gates, cattle guards, low live oak limbs over a Hill Country driveway and soft ground after rain are the four reasons a trailer gets turned around at the property line. Send photos or a dropped pin of the actual access route, not the venue's front gate.
Capacity is not stall count
A four-stall trailer and four standard units are not equivalent throughput. Trailer stalls turn over faster because they are more pleasant to use and better lit, but a trailer also concentrates everyone at one location while standard units can be distributed.
As a working guide, a two-stall trailer handles up to about a hundred guests for a few hours, a four-stall gets you to roughly two hundred, and an eight-stall covers around four hundred. Long events and open bars push those numbers down.
On large sites the strongest configuration is often a trailer for the main crowd plus distributed standard units at the far edges, rather than buying trailer stalls to cover walking distance.
